Abstract

The Panel Session is planned to cover todays facts of IT. Basing on that, future developments in such important sector will be described and conclusions will be drawn. It is hoped that the role of academic people, business men, and governments will be discussed and determined. It is predicated that IT will force a change in every thing. It seems that nothing will ever be the same. Several new IT applications and trends emerge as a result of recent developments of internet, and their impact on computing and communication.

Among these we mention: e-business, e-learning, e-commerce, e-ticketing, and e-government. This makes the issue of security more vital, so as to prevent unauthorized users from causing massive losses or damages due to accessing these facilities.

Furthermore, there is a need to come up with a new paradigms in computer organization and programming so as to obtain more powerful computation, and to meet the new challenges.

Among the crowdy expectation, future promises, and all new trends and issues, still a big question arises: How could we protect the culture, religion, dignity, security of societies and even independence of countries and privacy of families in their homes while going forward in employing IT?

This Panel Session will be devoted to discuss these ideas and more, where fruitful presentations, discussions, and exchange of ideas and attitudes will take place.

It remains to say that  both academic and business people in the area and sectors of computers and IT will be invited. Finally, we hope that a wide echo will take place for our conference ACIT2000 and this session. Looking forward to meeting you there.
